Risk And Reward

Tuesday, May 4, 2021

Risk, reward, Danger, excitement, challenge, Safety, Security, caution, living and dying. We have always separated what is an acceptable risk to take based on our own risk tolerances. Even in something such as investing money its always a required reflection so as not to cause too much stress for the client about to “risk” their money.

Some people want to be in the military, others police officers, train conductors, receptionists, stay at home parents or even professional athletes. All of these things have potential risk, some may think that only a person with incredibly high risk tolerance would consider one of these professions. Someone that say, works in “bomb disposal” may think that there is no risk in being in regular military or regular policing, yet would never even consider being able to take on the role as stay at home parent.  The risk to them as stay at home  parent may be a mental sanity risk that is far too great. Judging what one believes to be reasonable is never a good idea, as we don't understand why anyone chooses anything. It's not fair to mandate what you believe on another, what makes anyone believe that their view is the one that is correct. Allowing people to do what they want may cause us to be uncomfortable,  watching  a professional cyclist careening down a winding road at 100km/hour may be more than one can stand! Others may derive a great deal of excitement as they put themselves in the cyclists position, while Safety sitting on their couch, TV remote firmly gripped in hand!

Life is a dangerous experience regardless of what your choices are, Living it from you perspective is what you have the right to do. Telling others that they should live how you see fit is not reasonable or fair. Just as someone that enjoys a life of Security shouldn't be forced to live a life of extreme risk neither should the other way around be acceptable. Your life is your choice, regardless of whether I believe you are missing out on the adventure I choose. Telling others how it should be done isn't any of our business.
